How to Prepare for a Psychic or Tarot Reading So You Get Something Useful From It

Preparing for a psychic or Tarot reading doesn't require a new wardrobe, a moon-phase spreadsheet, or an elaborate ritual involving seventeen crystals arranged according to somebody's questionable Pinterest instructions. You don't need to meditate for three days, raise your vibration, or arrive having achieved a level of spiritual enlightenment that would make a Buddhist monk feel inadequate. You need a question, a willingness to consider the information you receive, and enough discernment to recognize that insight is only as valuable as what you choose to do with it.

After more than 25 years of working professionally as a psychic and Tarot reader, I've encountered just about every misconception imaginable regarding what a reading involves. Some people assume they're supposed to sit silently while I reveal their entire life story. Others arrive with elaborate explanations, concerned that they haven't provided enough information for the cards to work. And occasionally, someone seems genuinely surprised that I don't need to consult a little white booklet to explain what the Ten of Swords means.

Preparing for a psychic or Tarot reading is relatively straightforward: identify what you want to understand, provide enough context to establish the circumstances, choose a reading format appropriate for your questions, and remain receptive to information that may challenge your existing interpretation of the situation.

However, there's something worth understanding before you book, particularly if you're considering working with me. Not every Tarot reader is a psychic, and not every psychic uses Tarot. Even among practitioners who combine the two, the methods, experience, and depth of interpretation can vary considerably. My approach draws on more than two decades of professional experience with Tarot, my natural claircognizant psychic abilities, and the relationship I've developed with the cards throughout those years. I understand Tarot's traditional symbolism, but I don't read from a guidebook or approach each card as though its meaning exists independently of the question being examined. The cards, their positions, the relationships between them, and the intuitive information I receive all contribute to the interpretation.

Understanding that distinction will help you appreciate what you're actually receiving during a reading and how to prepare for the experience.

Decide what you actually want the reading to address

People generally seek psychic readings because there's something they want to understand that they haven't been able to resolve through ordinary observation, conversation, or consideration.

Perhaps a romantic connection has become inconsistent, and you're questioning whether the other person's intentions have changed. You may be considering a professional opportunity, trying to understand why a recurring relationship pattern continues appearing in your life, or wondering whether a particular situation is likely to develop in the direction you're hoping.

Sometimes the question is relatively straightforward. Will my ex contact me again? Is this relationship likely to become committed? What are his intentions? Is the career opportunity I'm considering likely to be successful?

These are perfectly legitimate questions to bring to a psychic or Tarot reading.

There's a tendency within certain spiritual communities to insist that every inquiry must be reframed into something concerning personal growth, as though wanting to know whether someone is going to call you requires an elaborate investigation into your childhood attachment patterns.

Those patterns may become relevant to the reading, but we don't need to pretend you booked an appointment to explore your subconscious when what you actually want to know is whether Michael intends to come back.

I prefer direct questions because they establish a clear focus for the information I'm examining. If your primary concern is whether reconciliation is likely, we can begin there. Depending on what emerges, we may also explore the circumstances influencing that possibility, the other person's intentions, and whether the relationship appears capable of developing differently.

A focused question doesn't necessarily produce a narrow reading. Quite often, examining one specific concern reveals additional influences and patterns that help explain the broader situation.

Before your appointment, consider identifying:

  • Your central question: What is the primary issue you want examined?
  • The relevant circumstances: What has happened that makes this question important right now?
  • The information you're seeking: Are you primarily concerned with another person's intentions, the likelihood of an outcome, an underlying dynamic, or the decisions available to you?
  • Your potential follow-up questions: What additional information might become important depending on the initial interpretation? You don't need to formulate everything perfectly. Part of my work involves recognizing the underlying dynamics surrounding a question, including influences you may not have considered. However, having a reasonably clear starting point allows us to spend more time examining your circumstances and less time determining what you're actually hoping to understand. If your questions concern romantic relationships, my separate guide to questions to ask a psychic about love examines inquiries involving attraction, commitment, reconciliation, former partners, and recurring relationship patterns in greater depth.

Bring context, but skip the ten-part defense of the situation

One of the more persistent misconceptions about psychic readings is that providing background information somehow compromises the reader's ability to work intuitively.

Some clients worry that mentioning too much will influence what the psychic perceives. Others believe they should remain completely silent and expect the reader to establish every relevant detail without assistance.

I've never been particularly interested in turning a client's appointment into an elaborate demonstration of how little information I can function with. You came to me for insight into a specific situation. I'm interested in examining that situation as thoroughly as the reading allows.

That doesn't mean I need your entire relationship history, seventeen screenshots, and a chronological account of every conversation you've had since the two of you met. A little relevant context is generally sufficient.

If you're asking about a romantic connection, for example, knowing the person's name, the nature of your relationship, and the circumstances prompting your inquiry can help establish the subject we're examining. You might explain that you've been dating someone for several months, recently discussed exclusivity, and noticed a change in communication afterward.

That's useful context.

Spending twenty minutes explaining why his withdrawal must be evidence that he's terrified of how deeply he loves you is considerably less useful. The distinction matters because your interpretation of someone's behavior may differ from what emerges during the reading.

I want to understand what has happened, but I also want room to examine the situation without automatically adopting the explanation you've already developed. And sometimes that explanation is precisely what deserves another look.

There's an important difference between telling me what someone has done and telling me what you've decided their behavior means. You may be entirely correct in your assessment. You may also be overlooking something significant because your emotional investment has influenced how you've interpreted the circumstances.

My role is to examine the information intuitively, identify the dynamics and influences that emerge, and communicate what I'm receiving as clearly as possible. You should also understand that working psychically doesn't require access to sensitive personal information.

I don't need passwords, financial account details, identity documents, or private information unrelated to your inquiry.

When additional context is useful, there's a reason for requesting it. Otherwise, your time is better spent examining the question you brought rather than providing information that contributes little to the reading.

Match the session length and format to your question

Choosing the right psychic or Tarot reading depends primarily on the complexity of your question and how you'd prefer to receive the information.

A single, focused inquiry may require considerably less time than a situation involving multiple relationships, competing decisions, or patterns that have developed over several years.

Longer readings provide more room for examination, but additional time isn't automatically necessary simply because a situation feels emotionally significant.

The objective is to choose a format that allows enough attention to be given to your question without purchasing more time than you actually need.

I offer private intuitive readings by phone, along with asynchronous written and audio Tarot readings. Each format incorporates my intuitive abilities and professional experience, although the structure and level of interaction differ.

Live Private Intuitive Readings

My live consultations take place exclusively by phone. These sessions are particularly appropriate when you want to explore a situation in real time, ask follow-up questions, or examine additional influences as the reading unfolds. I currently offer three session lengths:

  • 15-minute intuitive reading: Designed for one clearly defined question requiring focused examination and direct insight.
  • 30-minute intuitive reading: Appropriate for one or two questions or a situation that warrants additional exploration and follow-up.
  • 60-minute intuitive reading: Best suited to more complicated circumstances, multiple areas of inquiry, or situations involving several interconnected influences and decisions.

The advantage of a live reading is that we can follow the information as it emerges. If an interpretation reveals something unexpected or raises another relevant question, there's an opportunity to examine it together.

Written Tarot Readings

Written readings are ideal when you have a specific question and prefer receiving a detailed interpretation that you can revisit whenever you choose.

I offer one-, three-, five-, and ten-card written Tarot readings, each centered on one question. The number of cards determines the scope and complexity of the interpretation, but even a single-card reading draws on more than the conventional definition of the card selected.

I examine the symbolism, the context of your question, and the intuitive information associated with the card to develop the reading.

Larger spreads allow me to explore additional influences, patterns, and potential developments, including the relationships between cards and their positions within the layout.

Your reading is delivered as a personalized PDF, allowing you to return to the interpretation as circumstances develop.

Audio Tarot Readings

Audio readings offer another way to receive my work without scheduling a live appointment. Depending on the format selected, you can submit a focused question, explore up to three related questions, or request a broader reading concerning a particular area of your life.

I personally prepare and record the interpretation, combining Tarot with claircognizant insight and additional intuitive synthesis. This format is particularly useful if you prefer hearing the information communicated rather than reading a written report.

Tarot + Astrology Snapshot

For those interested in understanding the energetic themes surrounding a particular period, I also offer a Tarot and Astrology Snapshot.

This audio reading combines Tarot with current astrological influences to examine the themes, circumstances, and potential developments that may be relevant to your zodiac sign over the coming weeks.

It's a different approach from a question-specific relationship or career reading, making it particularly appropriate when you're interested in broader influences rather than one immediate concern.

My written and audio readings are generally delivered within 5–10 business days, depending on the current reading queue and the selected service. You can review the available formats, session lengths, and individual offerings on my Intuitive Readings page.

Prepare your space and your attention

You don't need to perform a ritual, cleanse your energy, or achieve a particular emotional state before receiving a psychic or Tarot reading. If you enjoy those practices, there's nothing inherently wrong with incorporating them into your personal preparation. They simply aren't requirements for working with me.

For a live phone consultation, I recommend choosing a relatively quiet environment where you can speak comfortably without worrying about interruptions or other people overhearing your conversation. Have your questions available, keep your phone charged, and consider having a notebook nearby if you'd like to record particular insights or information that deserves further consideration.

You don't need to arrive completely calm, either. People frequently seek readings during periods of uncertainty, emotional upheaval, or difficult decision-making. Expecting someone to become perfectly composed before discussing the circumstances troubling them would be a rather absurd requirement.

What matters is your ability to participate in the conversation and consider the information being presented. If you're feeling particularly overwhelmed, it may help to spend a few minutes organizing your thoughts beforehand so we can identify the central concern without becoming distracted by every related circumstance.

For written and audio readings, preparation is even simpler.

Review the question you're submitting, make sure you've provided the relevant context, and confirm that your inquiry fits within the format you've purchased.

If you've selected a single-question reading, avoid combining six unrelated subjects into one paragraph and hoping the distinction between them becomes irrelevant once the cards are on the table.

A question can have several interconnected elements, but there's a difference between exploring the complexity of one situation and attempting to cover your romantic life, career, finances, family relationships, and next vacation within a single inquiry. Choose the scope that corresponds with what you genuinely want examined.

What should you expect during a Tarot reading?

This is where understanding my methodology becomes particularly important because the way I work with Tarot differs from what many people associate with a conventional card reading.

I've been working with Tarot for more than 25 years, and my relationship with the cards has developed alongside my natural psychic abilities. I understand the traditional meanings associated with the Major and Minor Arcana, the symbolism depicted throughout the deck, and the significance of cards appearing in particular positions within a spread. That knowledge is foundational, but it isn't the entirety of my interpretation.

I don't shuffle a deck, draw a card, consult the little white booklet, and recite the description as though the same explanation should apply to every person who happens to draw it. After decades of working with Tarot, the symbolism has become an established part of my intuitive language.

When I examine a card, I'm considering its traditional associations, the specific question being asked, the position it occupies within the spread, the relationships it forms with surrounding cards, and the intuitive information I'm receiving. Those elements inform one another throughout the reading.

A card associated with emotional withdrawal, for example, may carry a very different significance when we're examining someone's intentions than when we're exploring a client's recurring relationship patterns.

Its appearance within a spread may also take on additional meaning depending on the cards surrounding it and the circumstances we're examining. The interpretation requires context, experience, and the ability to recognize how different influences relate to one another.

My claircognizant psychic ability is central to that process. Claircognizance, commonly described as clear knowing, is the primary way I experience intuitive information.

Rather than relying exclusively on visual impressions or the conventional meanings of cards, information frequently arrives as an immediate understanding of a situation, an underlying dynamic, or a potential development.

Sometimes that information emerges before I've drawn a card. Other times, a particular card or combination of cards brings additional details into focus. The Tarot allows me to examine those impressions through another interpretive framework, explore specific influences, and develop a more comprehensive understanding of the question.

There are also occasions when the information emerging intuitively introduces an interpretation that extends beyond the card's most familiar meaning.

That's an important distinction.

A conventional description of a card may establish a general theme, but it doesn't automatically explain how that theme is operating within your particular circumstances.

Experience matters because interpreting Tarot requires more than memorizing seventy-eight definitions. It involves understanding the symbolism well enough to recognize its relevance within a specific reading while remaining receptive to information that may not be immediately apparent from the cards themselves.

For example, if you ask whether a former partner intends to reconcile, I'm not interested in merely identifying whether the cards traditionally represent affection, separation, or communication.

I want to examine the energetic dynamics surrounding the connection, the influences contributing to the separation, the other person's potential intentions, and what the information suggests about the possibility of renewed contact.

If the spread indicates affection but also reveals resistance, instability, or conflicting influences, those contradictions deserve examination. Someone can experience genuine emotional attachment while remaining unwilling or unable to participate in a healthy relationship.

And if the information suggests the possibility of reconciliation, I want to consider what that potential development may actually involve rather than treating renewed contact as sufficient evidence of a favorable outcome.

The purpose of combining Tarot with psychic insight is to examine the situation beyond the most obvious interpretation of the individual cards.

That's the value of an experienced reader who understands both the traditional symbolism and the intuitive information emerging throughout the process. It's also why two practitioners can examine the same Tarot spread and arrive at interpretations with substantially different levels of detail, context, and relevance.

No psychic reading can independently verify another person's private thoughts or guarantee a future outcome, and I don't confuse a compelling intuitive impression with absolute certainty. However, exploring potential intentions, energetic dynamics, and likely developments is very much part of my work.

I'm not going to avoid your actual question because someone decided that asking what another person feels is spiritually inappropriate. You came for insight into a particular situation, and my responsibility is to examine that situation as thoroughly and responsibly as possible.

If you're interested in learning more about the intuitive ability central to my practice, my article on what claircognizance means explores how clear knowing is experienced and how I incorporate it into professional psychic readings.

What if the reading tells you something you don't want to hear?

One of the more important things to understand before booking a psychic or Tarot reading is that the information you receive may not confirm the outcome you're hoping for.

This is particularly relevant when the question involves a relationship, reconciliation, or another person's intentions.

You may arrive convinced that a connection is destined to develop into something substantial, only for the reading to suggest that the other person's emotional investment, circumstances, or willingness to participate is considerably different from what you've imagined.

You might discover influences you hadn't considered or receive an interpretation that challenges an explanation you've become particularly attached to. That can be uncomfortable, especially when you've spent a significant amount of time hoping for a specific outcome.

I understand why people seek reassurance during periods of uncertainty, but reassurance isn't particularly useful when it requires disregarding information that deserves attention.

My approach is to communicate what I'm receiving as clearly as possible, including when the interpretation differs from what you may have anticipated.

After more than two decades of professional experience, I've learned that the information people find most valuable isn't necessarily what makes them feel better in the moment. Sometimes the most useful insight is the information that encourages someone to reconsider an assumption, recognize a recurring pattern, or examine a possibility they hadn't previously been willing to entertain.

That doesn't mean every uncomfortable interpretation is automatically accurate. You should absolutely ask for clarification when something doesn't make sense, particularly during a live consultation. A responsible psychic should be willing to explain an interpretation, distinguish what is coming through intuitively from the conclusions being drawn, and acknowledge when information is unclear.

It's equally important to understand that psychic readings explore possibilities and influences rather than removing the free will of everyone involved. People can make decisions that change the direction of a situation, and circumstances may develop differently from what an initial reading suggests.

I generally prefer examining potential developments within a reasonably foreseeable timeframe rather than making elaborate predictions about events decades into the future.

There is considerably more practical value in understanding the influences surrounding your current circumstances and the possibilities emerging from them.

Finally, psychic readings should never replace qualified medical, legal, mental health, or financial guidance. I don't provide medical diagnoses, legal predictions, or specific investment recommendations through intuitive readings.

The objective is to provide information and perspective within the scope of my practice, not to substitute intuitive interpretation for professional expertise in matters requiring it.

After the reading: separate insight from action

Once you've received your psychic or Tarot reading, give yourself an opportunity to consider the information without immediately attempting to force every detail into a definitive conclusion.

A live reading may introduce several interconnected themes, particularly when we're exploring a complicated situation.

Written and audio readings allow you to revisit the interpretation at your own pace, which can be valuable when the information challenges something you've previously believed or introduces possibilities you hadn't considered.

You may discover that certain details become more relevant as circumstances unfold or that an interpretation encourages you to examine a familiar pattern from a different perspective.

As you review the reading, consider what information was most significant and whether it affects the decisions you're currently facing.

Perhaps you recognize that you've been overlooking an inconsistency in someone's behavior. Maybe the reading suggests a possibility you hadn't considered, or an underlying pattern becomes more apparent once you're no longer examining the situation exclusively through your emotional investment.

Some information may warrant further observation, while other insights may encourage you to have a conversation, establish a boundary, or reconsider a decision you've been postponing.

The important distinction is between understanding the information and becoming dependent on continually seeking additional interpretations before making a choice.

If you've asked whether someone intends to return and the reading suggests that reconciliation is unlikely, immediately purchasing another five readings in the hope that someone eventually tells you otherwise probably isn't going to improve your understanding of the situation.

Likewise, if a reading suggests renewed communication may occur, that doesn't mean you need to place your life on hold while waiting for the prediction to materialize. The information can be useful without becoming the governing authority over your decisions.

A worthwhile reading should leave you with greater understanding of the circumstances you're navigating, not a new dependency on someone else's interpretation of your life.

That's also why I take the distinction between intuitive information and practical application seriously.

My work involves examining energetic dynamics, potential outcomes, recurring patterns, and influences that may not be immediately apparent from within the situation. What you choose to do with that information remains your decision.

You may discover that the interpretation confirms something you've intuitively recognized for some time. You may also encounter information that requires you to reconsider how you've been approaching a particular relationship or circumstance.

Either way, the value comes from being willing to examine what you've learned and consider how it relates to the life you're actually living.

If you're looking for a Tarot reader who combines more than 25 years of experience with natural psychic ability, direct interpretation, and a question-led approach, I offer several ways to work together.

You can choose a focused written Tarot reading, a private audio interpretation, or a live intuitive consultation by phone, depending on the depth of your question and how you'd prefer to receive the information.

Explore my private psychic and Tarot reading offerings to find the format that best suits your circumstances.

You don't need to arrive with a perfectly formulated question or an elaborate spiritual preparation routine. Bring the situation you want examined and a willingness to consider what comes through. I'll take care of reading the cards.
